What we do The refuges provide the safety and shelter that these women need, but after what may have been years of abuse and humiliation the women find themselves in a situation where they feel isolated and socially excluded; they have had to leave their homes, family and friends, as well as their jobs and work colleagues. The high levels of stress related to the domestic violence and abuse these women have suffered creates a vulnerability and a lack of self-esteem which can easily lead to depression as well as physical illness. The meditation courses run by Iris directly address these issues by encouraging the women to reconnect with their inner state of well-being. Once connected they regain their power and confidence and can start to begin the process of rebuilding their lives. The exercises taught on our courses exercises help to deal with stress on the mind and in the body, and help to promote a positive outlook on life and increased self-confidence. With the empowerment of self-belief the women can make a positive new start that will benefit both themselves and their children. The courses we have conducted to date have been very well received and a sample of feedback can be seen here. |
